Coopérnico, the first Portuguese renewable energy cooperative, has launched its 9th photovoltaic project. This time in Loulé, in a partnership with ASMAL, a third sector organization that promotes mental health in Algarve. This new project involves 53750 € of investment and it is expected to produce 82 000 kWh/year. Coopérnico predicts a very high interest by its members, it has happened with previous investments that, in less than a week, were financed by Coopérnico’s members. The strong involvement of members in promoting this production projects is understood by Nuno Brito Jorge, Coopérnico’s President of Board: “There is a clear statement of citizens in favor of a new energy paradigm (focused on citizen participation, renewable energy, a low carbon society and transparency), and against the plans to explore oil and gas in Portugal”. ASMAL (Mental Health Association of Algarve) is a non-profit Private Institution of Social Solidarity and it was founded in January 1991, based in Loulé. The objectives of ASMAL are to promote mental health at all stages of life, provide greater diversity and quality in services, push for work in cooperation and contribute to the social demystification of mental illness.
